What you need for Tuno

The short version: a Windows PC, an internet connection, and a one-minute sound check on the PC Tuno will run on. You can pay first if you are not on that PC. Here is the detail.

  1. 1

    A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC

Tuno runs on any Windows 10 PC (version 1903, from May 2019, or later) and any Windows 11 PC. Desktops and laptops both work. If Windows itself runs comfortably, Tuno will too. Tuno does not run on a Mac, a Chromebook, or an iPad or Android tablet as its main home, though it can talk you through using those devices from the PC.

  2. 2

    An internet connection

Tuno works online, so it needs an internet connection whenever you use it. It does not need fast broadband, but it does need a steady one. The one-minute sound check tests this on the Windows PC Tuno will run on. If you are not on that PC, you can pay first and run the check when it is convenient.

  3. 3

Speakers and a microphone for voice

To talk with Tuno out loud, the computer needs working speakers (or headphones) and a microphone. Most laptops have both built in. Without them, Tuno still works fully by typing, and the sound check will tell you exactly what, if anything, is missing.

  4. 4

    Permission to install software

Installing Tuno takes about a minute and Windows will ask for administrator permission once, because Tuno installs for everyone who uses the computer. If Windows shows a blue SmartScreen message, check that the publisher shown is Tuno AI Ltd, then choose More info and Run anyway. Tuno is signed with our company certificate so you can always check who made it.

Two optional extras

Tuno works fine without either of these. Each adds one extra helper.

The browser helper (optional)

A small extension for Chrome or Edge lets Tuno read the web page you are on when you ask for help with it, so it can talk you through that page in plain words. It only ever shares the page you ask about, in the moment, and nothing is stored. Without it, everything else in Tuno works the same.

The Outlook add-in (optional)

If you read email in the Outlook program on your PC, a small add-in lets Tuno check suspicious emails there. If you read email in a web browser, you do not need it: the browser helper already covers you.

Check the PC Tuno will run on

The one-minute sound check runs on the Windows PC Tuno will live on. It checks the speakers, the microphone, and how steady the internet connection is. If you are not on that PC, you can pay first and run the check when it is convenient.

If something is missing, we tell you plainly rather than taking your money. If the PC has no microphone, you can still continue: Tuno works by typing, and we will help you decide whether a microphone is worth adding.

Buying from a Mac, phone, or tablet? Tuno does not currently work on these devices. If you are buying now to use on a Windows PC later, choose Skip the sound check on the signup page, then run the check on the Windows PC when it is convenient. Choose “A loved one” at checkout if it is a gift.
